Technische Universität ClausthalBiography
I am Dr. Asma Rehman, a materials scientist and researcher in Technical University Clausthal, Clausthal-Zellerfeld, Germany. My academic and professional journey has taken me from my early scientific roots in Pakistan to advanced research in Germany. I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Materials Science and Engineering, TU Clausthal, where I focus on the biofabrication of mineralized tissues—developing biomaterials that closely mimic the architecture and composition of natural tissues.
With a Ph.D. in Materials Science from TU Darmstadt, my work has focused on biomaterials and microfluidic technologies—particularly the development of biofunctional surfaces and devices for studying cellular behavior under flow conditions. I’m deeply interested in how materials interact with biological systems, especially under complex physiological conditions like shear stress. I enjoy working at the intersection of engineering, biology, and chemistry to design systems that support real-world biomedical applications.
Throughout my career, I’ve contributed to projects involving 3D printing of microfluidic chips, protein immobilisation, cell culture, and surface functionalisation. I’ve also had the opportunity to mentor students and collaborate across disciplines, something I find both meaningful and inspiring.
Outside of research, I value lifelong learning, global collaboration, and creating technologies that can eventually benefit healthcare and human well-being. I’m a committed scientist, a curious learner, and a strong advocate for women in science.
