Indian Institute of Technology Indore, Department of Biosciences and Biomedical EngineeringBiography
Dr. Sunil Kumar Boda is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioscience and Biomedical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Indore, India since Jan 2022. He is a recipient of the prestigious Ramalingaswamy Re-entry Fellowship awarded by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India and the Startup Research Grant (SRG) from the Science and Engineering Board (SERB), Govt. of India. Prior to his current position, Dr. Boda was a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Minnesota Dental School and Medical School (2019 – 2021) USA, and University of Nebraska Medical Center (2017 – 2018), USA. He completed his Ph.D. in Biomaterials from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore (2011 - 2016), India. He was awarded the Best PhD thesis for his work on bio-ceramic bone substitutes and nanomaterial-based antimicrobials. Dr. Boda’s research interests encompass biopolymer scaffolds for musculoskeletal tissue engineering, bioadhesives, biomimetic peptides, biofabrication, 3D tissue culture and organ-on-a-dish models.
Expertise
Dr. Boda's research expertise lies in hydroxyapatite bioceramic bone substitutes and biopolymeric 3D nanofibrous scaffolds coupled with bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2) derived peptides for craniofacial bone tissue engineering. Additionally, he developed 3D nanofibrous microspheres as injectable cell carriers for potential stem cell delivery. On the antimicrobial front, he developed DNA targeting ultrasmall gold nanoparticles and cationically modified 2D-MoS2 nanosheets for mitigating ESKAPE pathogens. Most recently, he is developing injectable bioadhesives/ glues for soft tissue sealing around intraosseous transcutaneous metallic prosthesis.
