After studies of molecular biology, immunology and microbiology I obtained my Ph.D. in molecular biology at the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz in 2011. Since June 2012 I am holding a position in the ERC advanced investigator group of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Werner E.G. Müller at the University Medical Center in Mainz. Since 2014 I am the head of the 3D-bioprinting lab. I am further educated as a project leader of genetic engineering facilities as well as in basic and advanced GMP. Since 2019 I am the head of the quality assurance department within our certified GMP-compliant manufacturing facility.

My work mainly focusses on the development of innovative biomaterials for biomedical applications. Especially bone and cartilage regeneration as well as the treatment of chronic wounds are the central topics of my work. Since 2014, I am the head of the 3D-bioprinting lab within our ERC advanced investigator group at the university medical center of the Johannes Gutenberg-University in Mainz. In this function and in cooperation with Envisiontec, the well-known creator of the 3D-bioplotter, I was able to develop the novel PrintRoll system to market maturity. The central pivotal point of my work is the morphogenetically active natural biopolymer polyphosphate. In the last months I managed to set up a certified GMP-compliant manufacturing facility for the production of sodium-polyphosphate in pharmaceutical quality. This API will soon be used in clinical trials to show its potential in the treatment of chronic wounds.
