Alessio CARMIGNANI profile

Born in Pisa, Italy, I am currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) within the Smart Bio-Interfaces Research Line, a multidisciplinary group of approximately 20 members, including researchers, postdoctoral fellows, PhD candidates, and MSc students. I obtained my Master’s Degree in Molecular Biotechnology (cum laude) from the University of Pisa in May 2020. In November 2023, I completed my PhD in BioRobotics (cum laude) at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, where I developed a dissertation entitled “A new generation of multi-tool biodegradable platform for biomedical applications.” Since March 2024, I have been working as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the IIT Center for Materials Interfaces. As part of the PROMETEO project, I had the opportunity to collaborate with NASA, completing two visiting research periods in the United States. Additionally, through an international partnership with Kanazawa University, I conducted a three-month research stay in Japan. These experiences strengthened my expertise in nanomaterials, bio–non-bio interfaces, and biological responses in unconventional environments.

My research focuses on the development of smart nanomaterials for nanomedicine, the investigation of bio–non-bio interactions, and the study of cellular behavior under altered gravity conditions. I combine approaches from bioengineering, nanotechnology, and cell biology to elucidate and modulate biological responses in complex and unconventional environments.
