Ana BRITES
i3s - Institute for Research & Innovation in Healt Advanced Graphene Biomaterial GroupBiography
Ana Brites is a Biological Engineer (Integrated Msc at Instituto Superior Técnico, 2021) currently working as a Research Assistant in the “GOCap” Project, where the first light-activated cap for sterilization of catheters is being developed.
Ana graduated in 2021 and during her masters she developed a 3D composite hydrogel with antibacterial activity for skin regeneration. Ana’s dissertation was developed between three institutes: Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de Lisboa (FFUL), where the hydrogel’s composition was optimized; at Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal (IPS) where the 3D printing and composite design was performed and optimized; and at Faculdade de Medicina Dentária, Universidade do Porto, more specifically in the Laboratory for Bone Metabolism and Regeneration (Bone Lab), where the antibacterial and biocompatibility tests were executed.
From this work, an article entitled “Fabrication of antibacterial and biocompatible 3D printed Manuka-Gelatin based patch for wound healing applications”. During that period, she also presented her work at iMed.Ulisboa Meeting (2021).
Expertise
Ana Brites has expertise in the field of Biological Engineering with a focus on biomaterials, antibacterial technologies, and medical applications. This includes knowledge of materials that can be used to create scaffolds for tissue regeneration.
Ana's dissertation work, which spanned across different institutes and focused on optimizing various aspects of hydrogel development, demonstrates her ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines and work groups.
