Biography

Sonu Singh is a biomedical engineer and patent professional currently serving as an Examiner of Patents and Designs at the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (CGPDTM), Government of India. He obtained his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi as a Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship (PMRF) awardee, graduating with distinction (CGPA 9.45). His doctoral research focused on the design and development of additively manufactured porous Ti6Al4V implants with integrated drug-eluting and biofunctional characteristics aimed at enhancing osteogenesis and enabling localized therapeutic delivery in orthopedic and oncological applications.

Expertise

Dr. Sonu Singh’s expertise lies at the convergence of biomaterials engineering, additive manufacturing, and medical device innovation, with a strong emphasis on translational and regulatory integration. His core research focuses on the design and development of architected porous metallic biomaterials, particularly titanium based lattice structures, for orthopedic applications, incorporating drug-eluting functionalities and nanostructured surface modifications to enhance osteogenesis and therapeutic efficacy . He possesses experience in advanced manufacturing techniques, including laser-based metal additive manufacturing and surface functionalization, as well as in vitro biological evaluation of biomaterials. His work also encompasses mechanical characterization, fatigue analysis, and fluid permeability assessments of open-cell scaffold architectures. In addition to technical expertise, Dr. Singh has significant proficiency in medical device regulatory frameworks and intellectual property systems, including ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and patent examination processes. His current role as a patent examiner further strengthens his capability in innovation assessment. He also demonstrates competence in interdisciplinary domains such as biofabrication, cell-material interactions, and device design, enabling him to bridge fundamental research with clinical and industrial translation.
