Paola Petrini is Associate Professor and holds the National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor (Italian Ministry of Research and University, ASN 2018). She is currently working at the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering, Politecnico di Milano (Italy). Since 1996 she was working with different roles at the Department of Bioengineering, Politecnico di Milano.
She is member of the PhD Board in Bioengineering at Politecnico di Milano (2022-ongoing). Professor of Biomaterials and teaching several biomaterial-related courses since 1998, at the Undergraduate; Master and PhD level.
She previously obtained the Master Degree in Organic Chemistry (1993) Università degli Studi di Milano (Italy), a Master Phys. in Science and Technology of Materials (1995) Università degli Studi di Milano (Italy) and a PhD in Materials for Engineering and Biomaterials (1998), Politecnico di Milano. She was visiting researcher at the University of Strathclyde (UK), Department of Pure and Applied Chemistry 05/1997 - 11/1997, University of Glasgow (UK), Centre for Cell Engineering 04/1998 -05/1998, University of Gent (Belgium), Polymer Materials Research 09/1998 - 10/1998.
Expertise
Design of biomaterials for different biomedical fields. Recently, her main interest is on the development of hydrogels with their diverse application. More recently, she is focusing on the development of bioinks for biofabrication and the use of hydrogels in recreating biological microenvironments for in vitro models.
TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER AND INNOVATION
She deposited 4 family of patents in the last 2 years, which are now being extended/transferred to companies, and, in the last 4 years, she won different innovation/technology transfer awards: Switch-2-Product (Politecnico di Milano and Deloitte Italia, 2018) Get it!
